Today, MGQ, Aggregates is extensively involved in producing specialty products such as glass sand and flux for the steel industry. High quality agricultural lime is produced from the abundant dolomitic limestone. Other applications for our industrial minerals continue to evolve due to our ability to provide low silica and very specific gradation. An in house quality control and testing lab allows MGQ, Aggregates to meet demanding specifications for both chemically graded and sized material. In 2007 this company engineered and installed its new high efficiency Ventilex fluid bed dryer.

M & B Asphalt is the premier local road construction contractor and Maple Grove Materials is a local supplier of asphalt and construction aggregate. MGQ has evolved as a regional supplier of aggregate via rail utilizing its state of the art rail load out facility and its ample access to class one rail including Norfolk Southern and CSX.

Our Companies

The companies in Maple Grove trace their roots back to M and B Asphalt Co. which was formed in 1946 by O.S. Bell and his brother in law Hugh McKay. Started as a driveway contractor the company grew and evolved into the comprehensive road construction contractor that it is today. In 1958 M & B moved to its current location at the Maple Grove Quarry in part to take advantage of the existing stone supply for their asphalt batch plant.

The year 1984 presented the company with a unique opportunity. Neighboring lime kilns were idled so local quarrying was stopped. Seeing this as an opportunity to expand their business, the company started selling limestone as Maple Grove Stone and thereafter mined aggregate for their own use as well as for local stone sales.

Carmeuse Ohio Lime purchased the rotary lime kilns in the late 90’s. At that time they turned to our company to handle their kiln feed and aggregate crushing operation. This was the genesis of MGQ (Maple Grove Quarry). The industrial minerals company MGQ, Aggregates quickly followed.
